Well, I wouldn't exactly call it "simple", but I came up with some really
nice results by doing the following....

Model an extruded Disc with 360 or 180 sides to make your pie shape with
very smooth edges.

Now do a Boolean Subtract to cut away all of the disc except for a small
slice (maybe 2 or 5 degrees out of the disc).

Export this slice out to Layout and clone it however many times you need
to cover the full 360 radius of the pie...parent each slice to the previous
slice. (slice2 parented to slice1, slice3 parented to slice2, etc)

Now you want to set up key-frames so each piece fans out an appropriate
ammount over the course of your animation...so if your pie slices are
only 2 degrees each, then they would be rotated 2 degrees.

This has worked very nicely for me in the past...it gives you a growing
pie chart effect that allows you to actually see the edges of your pie
slices as they fan out.  You can easily change the color of certain
slices to show the different portions of your pie chart and then
calculate how many slices you'll need to show a certain percent in your
chart (25% would be equal to eighteen 5 degree pie slices)

You can save yourself some repetition by making pie slices that are only
as small as you need them to be, but you'll need to fiddle with the size
and dissolve envolope of your slices through the animation to prevent
slices from overlapping.

Hope this helps...if there is enough interest, I'll put together a full
length tutorial for LightSpeed or LWPro....
